This is the starting of new winter orchids.
All of my orchids are resting now so I could not stand not to have another beauty in bloom in my home for Christmas, so went and bought two more not much variety was left most had no buds unopened so I didn't know how old they were and some not in the best condition some had no blooms left. These were the last of the orchids that had unopened blooms. I'm hoping no bud blast I had them covered when I left the store. It was a very warm day yesterday all the buds were closed when I brought them home now today I see the biggest is now starting to open

This one as well the largest bud is now opening.
As with new orchids I always check the roots when I bring new orchids home. I make sure the medium is not packed tight it usually is so I will loosen the moss to expose some of the roots so they get some circulation and I can check the roots easier for any sing of root rot.
I don't usually re-pot my orchids when in bloom but it is safe to do so if so desired. I keep the new orchids separated from my other orchids just in case....
